Hearing aids – let’s get technical

I am proud to be working in an industry that is constantly innovating to genuinely improve the lives of people with hearing difficulties.

It’s a joy to me to be able to offer my patients continually evolving hearing solutions from a wide range of up to the minute designs that can be tailored to meet their specific needs. To see the difference excellent hearing aids have on people’s lives is amazing.  The look on their faces when they leave the surgery, having had their new aids fitted for the first time is wonderful.

But what really goes on inside these wonderous little devices?

Inside the latest Phonak hearing aids, the new AutoSense OS™ Operating System now means that the system listens to the environment around you and auto adjusts every 0.4 seconds.  It can identify whether you are in the street, your car, or with friends in a noisy restaurant – or simply at home.  AutoSense then selects one of more than 200 internal settings to specifically match your exact sound environment, without the need to adjust your hearing aids manually. If something happens behind you, the aids will pick up on those sounds too and subtly switch the so that the ‘behind me’ noise dominates.  This is crucial for keeping you safe on the streets, roads and in public.

Micro-engineering led to the development of the Lyric – the world’s only 100% invisible hearing aid.  Not only is Lyric extremely discreet and comfortable to wear, it has been designed to be incredibly durable and able to withstand the challenging conditions within the ear canal.  Lyric incorporates Swiss precision engineering to create a work of technological art.

ReSound’s Spatial Sense technology allows you to hear 360’ of sound so you no longer have to turn your head or position yourself in order to hear the person who is speaking.  The sound processing within the latest ReSound devices emulates the performance of the natural ear to make the speech seem clearer and deliver a richer, more vibrant sound.

How is technology driving these improvements?

There is no doubt that the use of smart phones and other electronic devices is increasing with people of all ages, and the need for connectivity has also led to the development of hearing aids being able to be streamed directly to blue tooth enabled electronics.  The latest hearing aids also incorporate smart apps to allow remote support and adjustments without having to visit my clinic.  Other apps such as myCall-to-Text from Phonak transcribes phone calls in real time giving clients confidence when speaking on the phone*

The battery revolution. The introduction of lithium-ion rechargeable batteries means they are quick to charge, and long lasting – so no more disposable batteries, and now come in discreet stylish charging pods.

Batteries are now engineered to last for six years.

In summary

The newest hearing aids are small, discreet, responsive, Eco friendly, stylish and tailored to your lifestyle for improved experience.
