Hearing aids can reduce the effects of tinnitus
Where hearing assessment does not diagnose hearing loss, hearing aids can still be beneficial in reducing the distraction and irritation caused by tinnitus. In these cases, noise generating hearing aids which provide sound enrichment can often provide relief.
Is tinnitus a sign of hearing loss? Here is Steven’s opinion:
“Sometimes I find that patients believe that it is tinnitus rather than hearing loss that is causing them to have hearing difficulties.
But in reality, in most cases where there is an underlying hearing loss, it is this hearing deficiency which causes the tinnitus. Think of it like this; Your ears essentially have one function: To hear, so when they are unable to “Hear” certain or the full range of sounds, the ear will almost turn in on itself and start listening to the body working. We term this Tinnitus.
