Water resistant, yes, wet through – no!
Although hearing aids are water-resistant and are designed to be worn and work in daily life situations, we do not recommend that you allow them to become immersed in water or any other liquids as this will impair their performance and prevent them from working.
To avoid problems associated with getting hearing aids too wet, we recommend that you follow these guidelines:
- Remove your hearing aids before swimming, showering or going out in heavy rain.
- Don’t leave them in humid and wet environments such as bathrooms, shower rooms etc.
- Be sure to dry excess perspiration from your outer-ear following exercise or other situations producing perspiration
- Avoid direct contact with chemicals in cosmetics such as hair gels and sprays, aftershave and perfume, suntan lotions and insect repellents. Eardrop can also damage hearing aids.
- Don’t use cleaning fluids to clean your hearing aids. Always use a dry cloth.
What to do if your hearing aids do get wet through:
If you do accidently get your hearing aids wet, follow this simple advice:
- Turn off your hearing aids
- Remove any zinc-air batteries
- Shake your hearing aids to remove excess water and dry them with a dry cloth or paper towel.
- Air dry your hearing aids but avoid hot surfaces such as radiators
Once you are satisfied that the hearing aids are sufficiently dry, replace the batteries and turn them on. Should you require further help, do not hesitate to contact us.
